Larkmead Winery Garden

Location: Calistoga, CA
Client: Larkmead Winery

Ann planned and designed this garden in the heart of the wine country on her family’s property Larkmead Winery.  The garden design mirrors the sloping ridges and grassy alluvium  of northern Napa Valley.  This simple structuring of the garden complements the bucolic, yet elegant tasting room and winery designed by Howard Backen. The garden preserves the local aesthetic with plantings of native and adaptive Mediterranean and edible species that have long been a part of the Napa landscape.

The entry garden is a fragrant pollinator garden designed to awaken and clear the senses prior to entering the tasting room. The garden provides rich habitat for native birds and beneficial insects and hums with life in a way that enchants both visitors, staff and local fauna.

The project features onsite treatment and infiltration of all stormwater via bioswale systems and small spring pools that capture overland flow.
